Volunteering in hospice is a choice that creates rewards for patients and families. The ultimate surprise is the growth a volunteer develops from learning more about themselves with every visit to their patient. You learn to communicate in ways that increase your own appreciation of life. Your views of daily situations take on a holistic perspective. Nothing will ever be the same in your personal or professional life if you are correctly trained as a hospice volunteer.
The Hospice Volunteer Training Online program is different than any program currently offered. It is an introduction to the core concepts of hospice including it's history and philosophy, ethical and privacy considerations, definitions of team roles and eligibility, communication techniques, bereavement and grief explorations, and alternative therapies.
The uniqueness of the program is that it is entirely online and immediately available to the public for those interested in beginning training immediately. The cost of the program is purposely kept to $10 for the entire course in order to allow more people the opportunity to be introduced to the wondrous experience of hospice volunteering.
The follow-up training provided by the agency where you intend to volunteer as a patient care volunteer will be significantly reduced by completing this course.
Based on the agency, this course will meet requirements for administrative volunteering upon completion. Contact the agency where you intend to volunteer to confirm agency specific requirements.
Hospices in the United States until now have fulfilled patient care training requirements with a facilitator and personalized communication. The number of hours required by individual agencies vary based on the role of the volunteer and can be as long as 30 hours of training spanning days or weeks. Thousands of volunteers train every year. If the training dates and times are inconvenient, the prospective volunteer must wait weeks or months before the next training.
Online training ensures the immediate fulfillment of the desire to serve by providing training that is convenient and in a relaxed environment. The time to reflect on material studied, ability to immediately volunteer in a clerical or community event capacity, and ease of use will greatly enhance the volunteer experience by acting now while you are excited about actively participating in one of the most rewarding segments of the health care industry.
The online training we offer provides the foundation for understanding hospice and privacy issues related to volunteer responsibilities. The 2008 Conditions of Participation (the minimum safety and health standards that organizations must meet in order to begin and continue participating in the Medicare and Medicaid programs) are discussed in a manner that is non-threatening but understandable for the volunteer. Helping you understand these requirements ensures effective training for your role as a volunteer.
This training provides a basis for the volunteer and the agency to determine if this is a good fit for both parties. Through online training, those who will volunteer in a clerical or community event role are prepared to begin volunteering immediately upon approval by their chosen agency. Additional requirements to this training include learning the history of the agency where you wish to volunteer, completing the agency's volunteer application and a criminal background check.
At the end of the course consisting of 11 modules, you will experience education to meet and exceed requirements for office and community event volunteerism excluding an application, orientation and background check if applicable.
